Are You Lost In The Weekend?

It’s us again, Sophie and Keri, bringing you another awesome blog post. For our second post on this fledgling blog, we thought we would talk about our day out at a recent event, which the city of Exeter hosted last weekend. Lost Weekend Festival, was an event that was largely ran by Exeter City Council, which took place over the course of three days from the 6-8 Oct.

The festival consisted of three main topics - music, art and technology, with various events happening all over the city. On the Saturday, we popped over on an extremely busy train (cheers Great Western Railway) to take a look. You can check out their website for more information on what the festival was about and what events took place.

Of course, you cannot be too adventurous without stopping for a bite to eat, so before we properly took to the city to see what was going on, we stopped off at Hubbox, an independent burger joint. It turned out to be a great choice, with really tasty food, fantastic friendly service and reasonably priced. Also, hello avocado salad.

Although we didn’t go to lots of the free events, we managed to check out the events such as the reggae tent and vintage games on the cathedral green. Who knew playing Mario Brothers from your phone would be the best thing ever?! We also saw some of the free music artists dotted around the city. The one we found in the museum was brilliant and had a really nice chilled vibe to his set, which is the kind of music that appeals to both of us. Illuminations, an acapella group, were also wowing shoppers of Exeter. Situated just outside of M&S, they really were drawing in the crowds with the big hits they were covering.

We visited Exeter Phoenix, where we managed to get hold of one free Lost in Music band. It was £25 and allowed unlimited entry to all the music events that took place throughout the weekend. That meant that we got to have a look around some of the paid venues and take some photos and videos for some up and coming blogs, keep your eyes peeled and see some of the bands in action. We went to see Catherine and the Owl, who, we both agreed on, were rather angry sounding.

We ended our day checking out the Lost Weekend Festival by popping over to the Cathedral Green there was a giant game of Pacman being played on the big screen down there, which was downloaded on a free wifi and played through everyone's smartphones - very clever. It was very funny watching everyone badly lose playing the next game Super Mario, I don't think anyone even made the check point in the first level. Oh and of course, it's well worth mentioning that whilst we were over in the city, we had to check out the new Harry Potter style bar - The Cauldron Inn, for some much needed cocktail refreshments. It was made even better by the 20% off student discount. We both opted for the ‘Crackling Cackle,’ which incidentally tasted a bit like Bailys, but made yummier for us younger people.

Needless to say, we both had a cracking day out and according to the council, the whole weekend was a big success.

Keep your eyes peeled for more blogs in the upcoming days. We have lots of creative ideas and are looking forward to sharing our adventures with you. Until next time, S&K
