CHEIFS! CHEIFS! CHEIFS!

Hi everyone,

It’s us, again. Sophie and Keri For today’s post, we thought we would talk about our first rugby match experience watching Exeter Chiefs.

A conversation mid-swim one time about how we both had been wanting to go and see The Chiefs play lead to us finally getting our bums over to Sandy Park for the first time the other weekend. (24/2/18) This was despite the fact that neither of us know much about rugby other than the fact that you can only pass backwards, not forwards, oh and that Henry Slade is hot.

To make our awesome day even better, we made sure to stop off at our favourite cafe on the way for a top notched veggie breakfast. Cheers John and Rosella. I would recommend the Baytree if you ever find yourself in Torquay. It was a top start, to a quality day all round. It was a great day.

We both loved the atmosphere, especially during the match. Upon arrival at there ground there were loads of happy people, some with pints, all chatting and mooching around in the sunny, but cold winter February afternoon. We even had great seats right by the pitch. It was just a shame that we were also right behind a couple of bins.

The game itself was really good, even if Henry Slade was not on the pitch. Although saying that, if he wasn't injured, he would have been off playing for England in the Six Nations, so we wouldn’t have seen him regardless.

Even though neither of us had any idea of what was happening, not properly anyway, we both found that it was a really fun experience. Plus rugby fans are so much politer than the football fans that I'm (Keri) used to. We noticed that there were no swear words uttered, unlike during football matches where every other word used is a swear word.

Even if you have no clue what is happening, there is an electronic board, which is really handy for letting everyone know what was happening. It made a nice change to see the board say whenever there was a penalty kick; “shuuush, respect the kicker” and the entire stadium would go silent. It was eye opening. Whenever players get penalties in football, the opposition fans would do whatever it would take to put the player off.

It was just a great atmosphere, everyone was sipping on drinks, singing and chanting and just having fun really. It was also good fun and rather funny when both sets of fans were trying to out chant each other during rounds of Oggy, Oggy, Oggy throughout the match.

The game was great overall and somehow The Chiefs managed to win literally seconds at the end. The Saints were in the lead for most of the game. Even in the last six minutes the Saints were leading 30-24. The Chiefs scored with seconds to go to take the score to 31-30, which was a super exciting way to end the game and a brilliant day out at Sandy Park. Bloody amazing! We already can’t wait to go back.

Until next time,

S&K.
