Apple Day

Evening all,

Firstly we are really sorry to Cockington for the very late post up of the event. As unprofessional as this is, illness hit both of us pretty hard for a few weeks after the event and neither of us were up for doing much apart from going to work and feeling sorry for ourselves.

We're baccccck!

But, we're baaaaack!

Cockington Apple Day is an annual event which was in its 24th year this October 15 and we were invited down to get involved with some of the social media. Armed with a video camera, cameras and iPhones with access to social media accounts, we popped over to Cockington Court to capture some of the event and see what was going on at the heart of Torquay.

Apple Day didn’t disappoint with an array of stalls, live music, bouncy castles for the kids, and for the adults, apple cider, gin and a load of other alcohol. Even the dogs that were wandering around seemed to be having a good time. To accompany all of this, there was a beautiful backdrop of orange, red and yellow to really get you into the autumn mood. If you’re a foodie like us, you would have loved the many different kinds of food stalls around that were available for you to indulge on.

On the music front, there was a fantastic variety of local, talented musicians to dance along to from Bert Miller to Jamie Yost. Not only were there musicians on the green, there was also buskers in and around Cockington, which helped to showcase some of the talent that Torbay has.

The first performer that we both watched was Jamie Yost. I (Keri) knew he was a singer songwriter, but I had never heard any of his stuff before. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who loves acoustic music mixed with soul. Jamie will be releasing an EP soon, so keep your eyes peeled out. Make sure you click here to hear his sound. As it turned out, he was really rather good.

Bert Miller was lively, quirky and very entertaining. He accommodated to all ages in the crowd and got everyone dancing. He did a variety of songs from Johnny Cash to Postman Pat, which were accompanied by his brilliant facial expressions. Bert was a great act to have a cider and dance to.

The place itself was heaving with people, dogs and things to do, which was a nice way to spend a Sunday. There were positive vibes all around the place, with people of all ages enjoying everything that was on offer. The kids could enjoy an old school Punch & Judy, and everyone loved the music variety that was on offer. Also, as mentioned before, there were so many cute dogs around, Keri was in heaven. We had a nice time mooching around all of the stalls, taking photographs, drinking the free gin samples, or in Soph’s case, a pint of cider.

We also enjoyed catching up with friends from our school days - it was like a giant school reunion at times, but in a good way. Overall it was a perfect Sunday as the sun was shining, there was plenty of cider to be drunk and music to enjoy.

Until next time, S&K
